Newspeak
Newspeak is the debut album from the twin duo Kirsten & Marie.
The album is a fully orchestrated neo-folk album with classical guitars, violins, percussion etc.
Back in 2009, the two 18-year old girls were discovered by Oh No Ono's Aske Zidore and Kristoffer Rom after an Oh No Ono concert. Kirsten & Marie played a few songs to the band at a staircase behind the concert venue. Kirsten & Marie's songs kickstarted the idea of founding the label Tambourhinoceros (Iceage, Treefight For Sunlight, 4 Guys From the Future etc.) to be able to put out Kirsten & Marie's music. The EP "Kirsten & Marie" was soon released and then the 18-year old twins got a lot of attention with the chart-topping single "My Dear".
Kirsten & Marie are well-known in Denmark for their beautiful polyphonic melodies accompanied by Kirsten's chromatic chord shifts on the nylon string guitar. On "Newspeak" the twins and friends take this to a whole new level that undoubtly has international potential. "Newspeak" is a pop record - and at the same time it is experimental music, new age, sect folk, and radiophonic compositions.
Newspeak is produced and mixed by Aske Zidore.
