Kirsten & Marie's debut EP turns 10
What is it with siblings creating so much magical music through the years? The Beach Boys, The Bee Gees, Angus & Julia Stone, First Aid Kit, Haim, Tegan & Sara, The Staves, The Avett Brothers, The Everly Brothers, the Felice Brothers, The Barr Brothers, The Brother Brothers… the list goes on and on.
Is it shared experience that informs an idiosyncratic musical vision, unified in subtle intuition? In each band, thes siblings show a certain connection through deep, mutual understanding of the other’s intricate harmony and synchronization.
Today, we’re celebrating the 10 year anniversary of the debut EP by Kirsten & Marie, who follow in this tradition. Released on May 6, 2010, Kirsten & Marie was not only their debut EP, but the debut EP of yours truly here at Tambourhinoceros (ever so tastefully drummed on and produced by Tambou founders Kristoffer and Aske). Actually, come to think of it, their lead single “My Dear” was our first ever track release too!
In fact, we have a lot to owe to Kirsten & Marie. It was after stumbling upon the sisters playing on a staircase outside of an Oh No Ono show that the idea for starting Tambourhinoceros was born. Their vocal harmonies were immediately captivating then, and as we celebrate our 10 year anniversary, we are still captivated by the harmonies which brought us here, today.
On Kirsten & Marie, their intricate harmonies interweave with - dance around, and play with - Kirsten’s magnificent classical guitar parts. Since then, they went on to release their debut album Newspeak in 2012, and to study classical guitar at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and to play in the Danish band Collider, respectively.
Happy anniversary, Kirsten & Marie, and cheers to 10 years together!
