Cupid
Standing alone, “Cupid” is reminiscent of the indie rock-with-an-edge style of their debut EP and album which garnered high praise from Stereogum and KEXP among others. Yet, as the narrative arc of Communions’ sophomore album begins to surface—a reverse coming of age story that morphs from naive to skewed—it is clear that this collection will be more nuanced, conceptual and revealing.
In “Cupid” we can feel what Pitchfork called Communions’ “earnest spirit” on full display—naivety, innocence, romance, freedom. Yet, what begins as naive and free on Pure Fabrication will not end that way, promises the band’s reverse-coming-of-age album concept.
