Gershwin Wakes Up Singing

“Gershwin Wakes Up Singing” is the first single from 4th album by Danish folk darling The New Spring. For the first time ever the singer songwriter Bastian Kallesøe has recruited a full band for his new recordings and the result is a jangly tune that combines the strongest elements of Kallesøe's songwriting with a fresh, new, full-bodied sound.

Kallesøe says about the song:

“The song confronts the ultimate disaster: Waking up and discovering that you have died. This realization leads to a series of different emotions. There is the obvious disappointment of not being alive anymore. Then there is the equally obvious fascination of getting to touch your dead body. And finally there is the silly and pretty and completely useless knowing that you were, in fact, at some point, very much alive. Fittingly enough the song is the also the last song on the album - you could maybe even call it the 'death' of the album.

Besides that it is also an homage to the great American composer George Gershwin (the man behind classics like 'Summertime' and 'Rhapsody in Blue') whose life was cut ridiculously short when he died from a brain tumor in 1937 at the age of 38.”
