August Rosenbaum

Born into a family of artists, Copenhagen-based pianist August Rosenbaum has had an eclectic and passionate vision since he was first learning the piano. As the only one at elementary school recitals who would perform Thelonious Monk, Wu Tang Clan and Erik Satie - and with equal conviction - Rosenbaum shows that there have always been many sides to the talent of the Danish piano prodigy.

Today Rosenbaum is one of the most well respected minds in modern Danish music. He has won Danish Music Awards for his solo projects, performed at the acclaimed Sónar Festival, and his solo album Heights was nominated for the 2014 Nordic Music Prize and National Danish Critics’ Award. In 2017, Rosenbaum released Vista, his most recent album, produced by Robin Hannibal (Rhye, Kendrick Lamar and others).

August Rosenbaum’s music melds the cinematic and pristine with a contemporary coolness, stemming from the likes of Ryuichi Sakamoto or Talk Talk. His collaborators have included artists such as Quadron, Rhye, MØ, Zeena Parkins, Nils Frahm and video artist Jesper Just. Rosenbaum has been commissioned to write music for film and theatre, and he has composed a score for the Royal Danish Ballet together with Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon.
